The U23 World Team Trials Tournament took place this past weekend in Ohio. A total of 10 Cowboys competed in the tournament with one coming out on top.

Dustin Plott had a bracket with 95 wrestlers at 79 KG! He rolled through the early rounds teching his way to the quarterfinals where he beat Nick Incontrera 3-0. Plott then stormed back from a 10-3 deficit to Phillip Conigliaro to win 12-10 and make the finals.

In the best of three finals, he beat Michael O’Malley 6-2 then again 8-0 to win the tournament.

Strangely, he’s not officially made the World Team yet. The rules are so that any Senior World Team member that is of age to be on the U23 team has the option to accept the spot. There’s a possibility that Carter Starocci could make the Senior team next week at Final X New York and then would have the option to accept the spot.

Trevor Mastrogiovanni came in as the No. 1 seed at 57 KG. He kicked things off with an 8-5 win over Brett Ungar then picked up two tech falls on his way to the semifinals. In the semifinals, he was tied 6-6 with Ryan Miller going into the second period where he picked up two unanswered takedowns to win 10-6.

This set up a best of three final with Anthony Noto. Mastrogiovanni took the first match 7-6 then fell 4-0 in the second and 4-1 in the third to finish runner up in the tournament.

Daniel Manibog had a nice tournament at 70 KG and finished in seventh place. Other Cowboys competing here were Andrew Bloemhof, Chance McClane, Cooper Birdwell, Konner Doucet, Luke Surber, Reece Witcraft, and Trevor Dopps.
