Oklahoma State: defensive program?
EA Sports has been rolling out all kinds of rankings this week as part of its Rankings Week in anticipation for its new College Football 25, which will be released July 19, and the Cowboys were finally included on a list. After being left off the offensive rankings earlier Thursday, EA Sports later listed OSU with the No. 21 defense in the video game. The Cowboys will have an 84 overall rating on defense.
“The Development Team meticulously examined hundreds of thousands of data points to arrive at our team power rankings,” EA Sports said in its release. “With help from our friends at Pro Football Focus (PFF), the team analyzed all 134 rosters, thousands of players, years worth of game film and mountains of stats, ultimately arriving at our Team Power Rankings.”

OSU was one of four Big 12 schools included in the rankings, with conference newcomer Utah being the best at No. 10 with an 88 overall rating. Colorado (somehow?) was just above OSU at No. 20 with the same 84 overall rating as the Cowboys, and Kansas State was at No. 24, also with an 84 overall rating.
Colorado and Utah also made the top 25 of the offensive rankings at Nos. 8 and 11, respectively. Other Big 12 programs in the offensive rankings included Kansas (14), Arizona (15) and UCF (21).

Back to defense, the Cowboys are entering their second season in a whole new defensive system under second-year coordinator Bryan Nardo. OSU gave up 28.57 points and 441.8 yards a game last season in the first year in the new 3-3-5 system. It was also Nardo’s first season as a coordinator at the Division-I level.
EA Sports will finish its Rankings Week on Friday with its Overall Team Power Rankings. EA Sports started the week on Tuesday with its top 25 toughest places to play, which did not include Boone Pickens Stadium.
