With exits from Avery Anderson, Kalib Boone and Moussa Cisse, Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton now officially has some scholarships to hit the transfer portal with.

Boynton and staff have been active in the transfer market, reportedly reaching out to more than 20 players since the portal opened. East Carolina transfer Javon Small was one of the early guys the Cowboys reportedly looked at, and now Small is set to get onto OSU’s campus this week, along with visiting Ohio State and Oklahoma, according to Jon Rothstein.

Small missed about half of the Pirates’ season after suffering a knee injury, but in the 18 games he did play in as a sophomore, Small averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists a game while shooting 33% from 3-point range. For reference, Small had 100 assists in those 18 games; Bryce Thompson led OSU with 93 assists this season while playing in 36 games.

There are also a few updates as to other players OSU’s staff has reportedly reached out to. Here are three more names to keep an eye on:

Steven Ashworth, Utah State

OSU needs 3-point shooting — Steven Ashworth provides 3-point shooting.

Ashworth averaged 16.2 points a game for Utah State this past season while shooting 43% from 3 and taking 7.3 3s a game. In three seasons with the Aggies, Ashworth hit 204 3s, which would rank in the Top 10 in OSU’s career list.

Ashworth dropped 30 against Oral Roberts this season while going a bonkers 8-for-9 from deep.

He is also a good facilitator, averaging 4.5 assists a game while having a 2.7 assists-to-turnover ratio.

RJ Luis, UMass

As a freshman with the Minutemen this past season, RJ Luis averaged 11.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Listed at 6-foot-7, Luis hit 35% of his 3-point attempts. He scored 31 points against Duquesne where he got to the foul line 18 times, making 17 of his free throws.

Shahada Wells, TCU

Shahada Wells’ career started at the junior college level before transferring to UT-Arlington before spending his past two seasons in Fort Worth.

Statistically, it didn’t go as well for Wells as it did at UT-Arlington. He averaged 5.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game this past season for the Horned Frogs while shooting 24% from 3.

However, in his one season at UT-Arlington (2020-21), Wells averaged 16.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.2 steals a contest while shooting 39% from deep. So maybe a change of scenery will do him wonders.

In that season with UT-Arlington, Wells played against the Cade Cunningham-led Cowboys, where Wells scored 21 points to go with six rebounds and five assists.
