No. 9 Oklahoma State is on the road against No. 16 Baylor for a rematch of the heartbreak in Arlington that was last year’s Big 12 Championship. About a thousand miles east, ESPN’s GameDay crew is readying for the Clemson-NC State bout in Death Valley this evening. At the end of the show, they made their picks for this crucial early Big 12 matchup.

Former Clemson defensive end, and current Miami Dolphin, Christian Wilkins served as the celebrity guest picker and his connection with a former Cowboy was the only reason the panel didn’t unanimously pick the Bears to win.

Desmond Howard mentioned that he was impressed with Oklahoma State but, “this is going to be a huge challenge for them offensively. I’m going Baylor Bears in a high-scoring affair.”

Pat McAfee, in place of GameDay mainstay Lou Corso, gave props to Spencer Sanders who is “going to be a hell of a guy.” But McAfee also went with the Bears. “I’m a Blake Shapen believer, and I like the way Aranda’s put that squad together. A lot of dogs on that team.”

Kirk Herbstreit pointed to Baylor’s balanced attack, but more so at OSU’s veteran QB.

“Spencer Sanders has played well his whole career but he’s turned it over 10 times against this Baylor defense in his career,” said Herbstreit. “I think he turns it over again today and I think Shapen wins it.”

Wilkins was the lone panelist to pick the Pokes, though he admitted that his prediction was based on gained knowledge from his friends.

“Yeah, I’m going to be honest, I really don’t know much about either of these teams like that. I had to refer to my NFL teammates, Emmanuel Ogbah, defensive lineman, Xavien Howard went to Baylor, cornerback.

“Two really good players. I like Emmanuel Ogbah a little bit more. So I’m going with Oklahoma State.”

The Cowboys and Bears kick off in McLane Stadium in Waco at 2:30 p.m.
