Father of Five-Star Prospect Testifies OSU Offered Big Money for His Commitment

Oklahoma State was one of four schools implicated by Brian Bowen Sr.’s testimony.

The first of three trials in the FBI’s ongoing effort to rid corruption in college hoops entered day three on Thursday, and brought with it some salacious allegations aimed at OSU by a key witness in the case.

Brian Bowen Sr., the father of former five-star prospect Brian Bowen, testified in court that his son and family, who accepted $100,000 in exchange for his commitment to Louisville, was offered a higher amount by OSU.

$150,000 for a commitment and $8,000 to go toward a car and more money towards a house, to be exact, according to Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel, who adds that the offer came from ex-assistant coach Lamont Evans (as relayed to Bowen Sr. by ex-agent Christian Dawkins).

Evans was fired shortly after being roped into the scandal last year.

That is … pretty juicy information. And what’s more: Bowen’s camp apparently turned it down. Bowen signed with Louisville for $100K according to allegations by the feds (which Bowen Sr. did not refute in court), which later cost Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino and AD Tom Jurich their jobs at Louisville.

Brian Bowen Sr. was granted immunity in the college hoops corruption scandal in return for his full cooperation, so despite pessimism about how much of what he said is true — and believe me, based off what he said, there’s plenty of it — it’s hard to find a reason why he’d lie about it all. This is how the hoops sausage gets made in college hoops, so to speak, and Bowen Sr. showed just how nasty it is.

Bowen signed his NLI with Louisville but never played after the NCAA ruled him ineligible following the FBI’s allegations. He later transferred to South Carolina, but did not play and has since turned professional.
