The Six Best Stats From OSU’s 61-7 Win Over SE Louisiana
There was a lot going on at Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday afternoon in OSU’s first game of 2016, but here were six numbers that stuck out to me (most of them participation-related) in Game 1.
8: Twenty freshmen – 12 redshirts and eight true – played on Saturday. The eight freshmen are as follows:
- Calvin Bundage
- Madre Harper
- Justice Hill
- A.J. Green
- Dillon Stoner
- Obi Obialo
- Max Allan
- Chance Cook
That’s pretty impressive considering how much depth and how many veterans this squad was returning.
1: Freshman cornerback Madre Harper recovered a fumble in the end zone on OSU’s opening punt, marking a touchdown on his first career touch. I wonder how many times that has happened. Can’t be many, especially for OSU.
2: Vincent Taylor’s blocked field goal in the third quarter was the second block of his career. He’s making hay on his preseason prediction for himself.
Vicent Taylor told me before the season he wanted to block six field goals.
He's got one now. #okstate

69: I wouldn’t have expected anything else, but OSU played nearly 70 players on Saturday against SE Louisiana. For the sake of context, SE Louisiana only played 50.
Per the final stat book, 69 (!!!) different #OKstate players saw the field today.

$385,000: I thought this was some interesting #math
Cost to play SELA: $385,000
Attendance: 50,079
Theoretic average ticket cost to make up the difference: $7.69 + taxI'm sure you paid more.

13: Initially ESPN listed OSU as having 14 players who caught passes, but the actual number seems to be only 13. Still that’s impressive. SE Louisiana only completed four total passes to three players!
