Former Baylor Signee Joining OSU Football Program

Kilgore Junior College defensive tackle Dequinton Osborne, a former Baylor 2016 signee who was recently released from his letter of intent, has committed to join the OSU football program per a report from gopokes.com.

According to the report, Osborne made a visit to Stillwater on Monday where he made the decision to choose OSU over other suitors after his release from his LOI.

Osborne is a 6-foot, 310-pound defensive tackle who earned NJCAA All-American honors last season where he put up 61 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 6 sacks.

With defensive tackle depth somewhat of a concern last season, the position should be more than solidified now. The Cowboys not only return Vili Levini, who sat out 2015 due to injury, but also bring back Mote Maile, Vincent Taylor, Darrion Daniels, and Eric Davis – all significant contributors from last season.

With Osborne in the fold and reportedly set to join OSU on July 6, he seems to be at the least a rotation player. The starting defensive line, I assume, won’t look much different. It’s still early and we’ll know more as the fall approaches, but I would suspect Maile and Taylor will start in 2016 with Levini and Daniels playing as “1B” in a deep DT rotation that could easily be one of the biggest strengths on the defense in 2016.

The addition of Osborne is a big one for Gundy’s staff. They only signed one defensive tackle in 2016 in Arkansas standout Cam Murray. And with the addition of Osborne, being a 2016 prospect from JUCO, it’s not unfair to assume that he could make some sort of impact as early as next season or at least provide some quality depth.

Osborne is the second junior college all-american joining the OSU football program this year. The other, offensive tackle Larry Williams of Hutch Community College, has been on campus this spring and is competing for a starting spot on the offensive line.
