Former Oklahoma State Forward Tyreek Smith Commits to SMU
Smith will join the Mustangs in Dallas
Another former Cowboy has exited the transfer portal.
Tyreek Smith on Wednesday announced his commitment to SMU via Instagram. Smith played in all 36 of Oklahoma State’s games this past season, making nine starts. He averaged 5.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 16.4 minutes a game.
Smith had a strong NIT showing, where in three games he averaged 9.7 points and 10.7 rebounds, recording double-doubles in two of those games.
Listed as a 6-foot-9 redshirt junior this past season, Smith came to Stillwater via the transfer portal, transferring in from Texas Tech ahead of the 2021-22 season. Smith should be immediately eligible for the Mustangs, though, as he graduated this school year.
He becomes the third former Cowboy to find a new home. Kalib Boone committed to UNLV last week, and Avery Anderson committed to TCU. Woody Newton and Moussa Cisse are still in the portal.
Oklahoma State has three scholarships to give with all the outgoing portal activity this offseason. Oklahoma State did add East Carolina transfer guard Javon Small, who averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists a game last season for the Pirates.
