Four-Star 2019 Guard and Former OSU Target Requests Release from Texas A&M

Well well well, this could get interesting. Four-star Class of 2019 guard prospect Chris Harris Jr., the No. 129 overall prospect in the class, has formally requested a release from his letter of intent at Texas A&M following the university’s decision this week to fire Aggies coach Billy Kennedy.

Harris Jr., a 6-3 shooting guard from South Garland High School in Garland, Texas, was once an OSU target — the Pokes offered way back in September of 2017 — and he has a connection to Stillwater. Harris is one of several members of the “Baggage Claim Boys,” a group that consists of Harris, five-star UK-bound guard Tyrese Maxey … and OSU freshman Isaac Likekele. All the eye emojis!

Harris, at the time of his commitment, picked A&M over SMU, Baylor, K-State and Memphis, but with him reopening his recruitment at this stage, the landscape has changed significantly. Most notably is that OSU is in need of another guard in the 2019 class to join Marcus Watson and Avery Anderson, especially considering Watson could play small forward and Anderson is more of a point guard. Harris could even things out and give OSU a lethal 1-2-3-4-5 signee class if you include Keylan Boone, a small/power forward, and Kalib Boone, a center.

They have the scholarships to offer it, too, as OSU still has two openings for 2019. With Christian Brown’s recent commitment to Georgia, OSU’s targets are dwindling, and Harris would be a big late grab for Boynton. If OSU were to get him, he would bump their now-No. 23 class up into the teens as the next signing period opens on April 17.
