Steve Lutz and his staff are off to a strong start in the 2026 cycle with the commitment of in-state product Jalen Montonati, but the Cowboys’ class could get taken up to another level next week.

Latrell Allmond, a four-star forward ranked as highly as the No. 29 player in the country, announced Monday that he is down to five schools: Oklahoma State, Virginia, Indiana, Maryland and Tennessee. Allmond will make his commitment next Monday (Oct. 3).

The Cowboys have been going all-in on Allmond’s recruitment. He took an official visit to Stillwater last month. He’s also visited Indiana (June 17), Tennessee (Sept. 13) and Virginia (Sept. 26).

Allmond is a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward who has McDonald’s All-American potential.

He’s set to play his senior season at Petersburg High in Richmond, Virginia but spent his first three seasons of high school ball at John Marshall in Richmond. As a junior he averaged 21.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.3 blocks a game while shooting 66% from the field and 44% from 3. He led John Marshall to a state title and was named the Virginia Class 2 Player of the Year.

Allmond played AAU with Team Loaded in the Adidas-sponsored 3SSB League. He averaged 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.6 blocks a game in 3SSB play this summer.

How Allmond Would Fit at OSU

There’s a reason the Cowboys are all-in on Allmond.

For starters, he’s a really good basketball player. But, Allmond also plays a position of need for the Cowboys going into next year.

Robert Jennings II and Christian Coleman are the only two Allmond-type players on OSU’s 2025-26 roster, but both of those guys are entering their final year of eligibility.

How Allmond Would Impact OSU’s 2026 Recruiting Class

OSU’s one-man class of Montonati is already good enough to be the the No. 36 class in the country, according to 247Sports, which is good for sixth in the Big 12.

Should Allmond pick the Pokes, they’d fly up those rankings to No. 10 as things currently stand. That’d be good enough for second in the Big 12 behind only Kansas.
