Four-Star Point Guard Jeremiah Johnson Signs with Oklahoma State

Jeremiah Johnson went from Oklahoma State commit to Oklahoma State signee on Wednesday.

Wednesday opened the early signing period for most college sports (not football), where Johnson — a four-star point guard from Oklahoma who is playing in the Overtime Elite league — put pen to paper. Johnson is the No. 140 player in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. ESPN lists Johnson as a four-star prospect. He signed with the Cowboys over offers from TCU, Arkansas, Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and others.

“Jeremiah is a high-level athlete and competitor,” Mike Boynton said in OSU’s release. “He’s driven to be his best and wants to win above anything else. His versatility will be a great asset. He can function as a both scorer and as a playmaker and shot creator for his teammates.”

Boynton was the first Division-I coach to extend Johnson an offer, doing so in the summer after Johnson’s freshman year at Putnam City North. He went onto average 23 points a game as a sophomore at PC North before making a move to Norman North, where he averaged 20.9 points a game as a junior before leaving the state’s borders to spend a season at Wasatch Academy in Utah ahead of this opportunity with Overtime Elite.

Johnson was the victim of a shooting that left him in critical condition as a high school sophomore.

Needless to say, he has been through a lot.

“We’re excited for another homegrown Oklahoma athlete to decide Stillwater is the place to be,” Boynton said. “Jeremiah Johnson has had a heck of a journey. He’s endured setbacks but shown tremendous resiliency. We look forward to his continued growth once he gets to campus.”

With Johnson’s signing, Boynton continues to keep solid in-state prospects in state. The Cowboys have three scholarship Oklahomans on their current roster. Starting with the Boone twins in the 2019 class, Boynton has now signed seven Oklahomans as the Cowboys’ head coach.

Johnson is the only committed prospect in OSU’s 2024 class.

“I chose Oklahoma State because it just feels like home to me,” Johnson told PFB when he committed in September. “I have a great connection with the coaching staff up there, and I know so many people already at the school — not just basketball, on the football team, soccer team and also just students there. It’s right up the street from my house. It’s a 40-minute drive. It’s close enough for my family to come to watch me.

“And also just the connection that me and OSU have had over the past five years is the reason why.”
