Freshman Tracker: J.D. King Hits Stride Entering Bedlam Week

The freshman tracker has suddenly turned in to the J.D. King tracker in recent weeks.

The backup to Justice Hill at running back has come on strong at the mid-season mark with two big-time performances in consecutive weeks leading up to Bedlam, highlighted by a 36-carry, five-reception, two-touchdown performance against WVU last weekend.

“We’re really proud of what J.D. King brought to the table, with him having touched the ball 41 times in a conference game as a true freshman,” said Mike Gundy. “It was a big factor for us.”

King did it on the ground and through the air, as one of his scores came via a catch out of the backfield. His five receptions were the second most by an OSU player in Morgantown behind James Washington.

“It’s pretty simple with him,” Gundy explained. “Every once in a while, we come across a young man that’s very mature. Not only physically, but mentally. The big scene doesn’t really affect him much and he’s been that way since day one. It’s hard to tell in recruiting, but that would be the best illustration as to why he has had success up to this point. There aren’t many young men that can come in, at any position, and be successful right away, and he’s been that way.”

Here’s an updated look at the season statistics for the true freshmen.
