The details of Boone Pickens’ funeral and celebration of life were disclosed on Friday following the death of Pickens on Wednesday at the age of 91.

His funeral will take place next Thursday, and Jerry Jones will be one of the featured speakers. Oh, and so will governor Greg Abbott. Here are the details.

The funeral service to honor the life and legacy of T. Boone Pickens has been set for invited family, friends and dignitaries at 2 p.m. CDT on Thursday, September 19, at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane in Dallas, Texas.

The general public is invited and encouraged to view the services in Wesley Hall at the church. A live stream will be available at boonepickens.com.

Speakers at the event will include Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Alan White, a long-time friend of Mr. Pickens.

As for the celebration in Stillwater, The Oklahoman had the details on that. It will take place on a Wednesday at 3 p.m., which is great for students but unfortunate for alumni looking to make the trek.

Here are the details.

The life of Boone Pickens, who died Wednesday at age 91, will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The public invitation calls fans to “celebrate and remember the man and the legend Boone Pickens whose gifts to academics and athletics transformed Oklahoma State.” [Oklahoman]

The outpouring for Pickens this week has been incredible. Friends of mine who don’t follow OSU but live in Dallas have been talking about it, everyone has been talking about it. I don’t know if it’s the OSU sports story of the year, but if not it’ll be somewhere close.

I’m glad for the celebration of life in Stillwater. That will be awesome and a good opportunity to pay tribute to somebody who gave a university and an athletics program as much as, and probably more than, anyone before him has ever given.
