Sure, Kansas wasn’t the most difficult test, but you’d rather do well on an easy test than bad on it.

Here are my grades from Oklahoma State’s Week 5 win against Kansas.

Justice Hill: A

For what seems like the first time this season, Justice Hill was the featured attraction of OSU’s offense.

Hill had 31 carries for 189 yards and a score. He made abeautiful cut after beautiful cut and was elusive as ever near the line of scrimmage. He often had to make a man miss in the backfield because of some questionable blocking in front of him, but he’d do so and run for a good chunk of yards.

Wide Receivers: A

Every OSU wide receiver who caught a pass Saturday had a touchdown.

After a week of flux between Jalen McCleskey redshirting and Dillon Stoner being injured, Tyron Johnson, Tylan Wallace and Landon Wolf were outstanding against Kansas. The trio combined for 306 yards and four touchdowns. They averaged about 24 yards a reception, only bringing in a combined 13 catches.

I couldn’t decide which of these two catches I found most impressive, so enjoy them both.

Taylor Cornelius: A-

Yeah sure, Taylor Cornelius left some throws short, but it all got the job done.

What’s good about most of his throws being underthrown rather than overthrown is he’s giving his receivers a chance, and for the most part the receivers have shown why that works. Cornelius completed a season-high 75 percent of his passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns. He did have a pick, but it was him chunking a ball up to Wallace in a one-on-one scenario, which is something you can live with.

Offensive line: B

You can’t harp on an offensive line too much when its quarterback doesn’t get sacked and its team rushes for 256 yards.

With that said, there was still a lot of times Justice Hill had to evade defenders in the backfield and a few times Taylor Cornelius got flushed out of the pocket. No harm, no foul, though.

Defensive Front: A

Jordan Brailford is a problem.

Brailford sacked Carter Stanley three times Saturday. Justin Phillips and Mike Scott also got to Stanley, and on top of a scary pass rush, the Cowboys’ defensive front held Pooka Williams to only 97 rushing yards, 60 of which came on one run.

Secondary: C+

When Carter Stanley wasn’t getting eaten, he was actually pretty good.

Stanley entered his game against OSU with 289 yards on 39 attempts. Saturday, he had 247 yards on 32 attempts, and he doubled his three passing touchdowns from the Jayhawks’ opening four games. The amount of press man the defensive backs have to play makes it tough to not give up a big play every now and then, but you’d like to see a better performance against Kansas.
