Series History

Saturday’s matchup will be just the 13th time these teams have met, with OSU bringing an 8-4 record into the game.

The Cowboys and Mountaineers first met in 1928, a game West Virginia won 32-6 in Morgantown. They played again the next season in Stillwater, where WVU won 9-6.

OSU’s first win in the series came in the teams’ next meeting, in the 1987 Sun (snow) Bowl. Thurman Thomas ran for 157 yards and four touchdowns in that game to end his collegiate career.

That was their final meeting before the Mountaineers joined the Big 12, and OSU and WVU have played every year since. OSU is 7-2 against the West Virginia as Big 12 foes.
