Garth Brooks to star in Prime-Time Special on CBS This Week

Oklahoma State alum Garth Brooks held a Facebook Live concert last week that drew so many fans (5+ million!), it crashed the site for many viewers. Now CBS is stepping up to the plate to make sure the people get what the people want.

CBS and Garth announced on Sunday that they are teaming up for a Wednesday evening concert that will air on CBS at 8 p.m. CT, featuring Garth Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood. The show — called “Garth and Trisha Live” — will take place from their home studio called Studio G. It’s a concert/message all in one, with their goal being to try and bring people together amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“After we saw Garth and Trisha crash Facebook, we reached out to them about bringing this Studio G to a larger audience in a safe and exciting way,” said Executive Vice President of Specials, Music and Live Events Jack Sussman. “With Garth and Trisha coupled with the power of broadcast television, anything can happen, making this an event not to be missed.”

Brooks got his bachelor’s degree in advertising from Oklahoma State. It was at OSU where he got his start in the profession he’s now an icon in.

Brooks got his start in music by singing in bars and clubs while attending OSU. The Yukon, Okla., native received a track scholarship to OSU, where he competed in the javelin.

In 1987, he moved to Nashville to try to make it in country music. With help from music manager Bob Doyle, Brooks eventually signed to Capitol Records. His early hits include “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and “The Dance.” [okstate]
