The Cowboys picked up their first commitment in the 2025 class on Sunday, and it came from an in-state standout.

Idabel’s Matrail Lopez, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete, committed to Oklahoma State over offers from Washington State, Tulsa, North Texas and UTSA. Lopez in unranked on the major recruiting services, but that shouldn’t last long.

Lopez ran for 484 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 41 passes for 814 yards and another 10 scores in his junior season at Idabel, according to MaxPreps. He also recorded 61 tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups.

Idabel went 11-1 in 2024, making it to the Class 2A quarterfinals.

OSU offered Lopez on Monday before he quickly jumped at the opportunity. Although he plays all over the place for the Warriors, it looks like OSU is after him as an offensive player on account of offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Kasey Dunn and running backs coach John Wozniak going out to eastern Oklahoma to see him.

Lopez becomes the Cowboys’ first commitment in 2025. The OSU staff has been busy on the trail, so the cycle could be about to pick up as we head into the spring and summer.
