Connections often matter moreso than geography and opportunity, and such was the case Wednesday as Owasso (Okla.) running back Isaiah Jacobs committed to Maryland.

Jacobs chose to play for the Terps and coach Mike Locksley, who before his time at Maryland coached his older brother, Joshua, at Alabama. He’ll be the third running back for Maryland in its 2020 class.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Jacobs had visited OSU on numerous occasions — including two weeks ago on an official basis — but Maryland won out in the end. Jacobs was long expected to wait out the commitment process, but Tuesday he announced he intended to sign Wednesday afternoon.

Can’t blame Jacobs for following in older brother’s footsteps. Joshua played at Alabama under Locksley and became a first-round NFL talent. At Maryland, he’ll have competition but hopes to do the same for an uptempo offense that looked much-improved in Locksley’s first season at the helm of the program.

With Jacobs off the board, OSU will continue to plug away at four-star running back Daniyel Ngata, as well as junior college running back La’damian Webb. Ngata is set to commit in two weeks, while Webb’s commitment date is unknown and unset at this time.
