In-state Star Defensive Recruit Collin Oliver Sets Commitment Day for May 15

Good news coming soon?

Four-star hybrid defensive end/linebacker recruit Collin Oliver announced over the weekend that his “mind is made up” and that he will be making his college commitment this week, on May 15.

The Edmond Santa Fe standout is down to eight schools: Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Iowa State, TCU, Utah, Ole Miss and Arkansas. The Cowboys have long been considered one of the frontrunners.

In January, he told PFB that OSU was among his top three schools.

OSU’s leader status comes in part because of favorable location in relation to his high school, but also in part because of an early jump on the now-national recruit. The OSU staff was first to offer him a scholarship last year, on May 15, 2019. (His commitment will be exactly a year to date from the time OSU offered. Eyeball emojis!)

Coincidental timing? I think not. All signs point to the Pokes being in position to land the 6-2, 220-pound Oliver — which would give OSU a massive bump in the 2021 class. To date OSU has just three commitments in the cycle but is surging quickly over the last month after landing commitments from running back Jaden Nixon and safety Ty Williams. Oliver rates as a top-350 recruit at 247Sports and in the composite rankings, which is an aggregation of all the recruiting sites.

Per the 247Sports recruiting site calculator, OSU’s 70th-ranked recruiting class would jump 10 spots, to No. 60, in the 2021 rankings with the addition of Oliver.

If Oliver commits, he would be the highest-ranked defensive recruit for OSU since … Darrion Daniels in 2015.
