Injury Report: Rodney Fields, Oscar Hammond, Michael Diatta Expected to Miss OSU’s Season Opener
A trio of Cowboys will miss the opener.
A trio of Cowboys are expected to miss the season opener, according to Dave Hunziker.
Hunziker reported on Oklahoma State’s pregame radio broadcast that running back Rodney Fields Jr., defensive tackle Michael Diatta and tight end Oscar Hammond are expected to sit out the Cowboys’ game against UT-Martin, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Fields’ holdout is precautionary, with Hunziker saying Fields might dress just not play. He impressed as a true freshman last season. Playing in four games while maintaining a redshirt, Fields carried 21 times, running for 99 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a pair of passes for 23 yards. Fields made his season debut against BYU and ran for 38 yards. He scored his touchdown in the Cowboys’ home finale against Texas Tech, a game he carried three times for 29 yards in.
Diatta transferred to OSU after spending four seasons at Virginia. Listed at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Diatta made 57 tackles in his time as a Cavalier including five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Most of those tackles came last season, as Diatta accounted for 31 tackles in 2024.
A 6-foot-3, 235-pound tight end, Hammond returned to his home state after playing two seasons at Central Oklahoma and last season at North Texas. The Collinsville native made six starts at UNT last season, catching 19 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. In his final season at UCO, Hammond caught 33 passes for 463 yards and two touchdowns. Hunziker noted that there was a chance Hammond was back for the Cowboys’ game against Oregon next weekend.
