Inside the Locker Room After OSU’s Win Over Texas
Following the Cowboys’ 65-64 thrilling win over Texas, Mike Boynton addressed his team. It was a different scene in side the home locker room at GIA than the visitor’s at Bramlage Coliseum from three days prior.
The story coming out of Manhattan and all week was Boynton’s terming his team’s effort “gutless”. He talked about those comments in his post game press conference as well as with his team.
I think my word choice kind of went a different route than what it should be, and that’s on me,” said Boynton to the media. “I have to be smarter than that, but at the same time, my kids got the message and I knew they would because they’re good kids. They know I love them, care about them and I’m proud of the way they fought today.”
Once back in the locker room, Boynton was greeted by Jeffrey Carroll who was hiding behind a desk and wearing the Everlast boxing gloves his head coach uses as a teaching prop.
Boynton told his team that he loves them like his own children and will always treat them that way. Boynton also still believes his team has what it takes to turn some heads over the next couple of months.
“I continue to believe in you guys,” said Boynton. “I think we’re going to be a hell of a team. We’re an NCAA Tournament team that can advance. We have enough in this locker room if we strap those gloves on every single night and fight until the last buzzer.”
Whether or not this team makes the postseason will be decided over the next two months. But there’s no denying Boynton’s passion for his team and love for his players. Who wouldn’t run through a wall for this guy?
