Oklahoma State took it to the visiting Golden Eagles behind a career game by its backup point guard Brandon Averette. OSU won 91-48 and pushed the all-time record against Oral Roberts to 16-5.

Averette started hot, making his first pair of 3-pointers as part of an early barrage of deep shots from both teams. But things stagnated for the Cowboys on the offensive side with several early-shot clock jumpers.

OSU hit a hot streak to end the first half, outscoring ORU 14-3 over last 7:08 and 9-0 in last 3:19, and it did by forcing four quick turnovers and getting into transition.

Four Cowboys reached double figures led by Averette with a career-high 21 points on 16 shots including a 4-of-6 night from beyond the arc. The sophomore backup floor general added five rebounds and nine assists without a single turnover.

Mitchell Solomon chipped in 12 points while going 5 of 6 from the field and seven rebounds and three assists. Thomas Dziagwa and Zack Dawson pitched in 11 points each.

The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, only had one player reach double digits with Albert Owens leading all visitors with 16 points on 11 shots and added six rebounds.

Halfway through the second period, the clock went out and left both teams twiddling their thumbs for over 15 minutes. But the Cowboys came out aggressive, outscoring ORU 30-14 the rest of the way to cruise to the big win.

OSU assistant Scott Sutton got a little payback on his former team. Sutton was let go after 22 seasons on staff and 18 as the program’s winningest head coach.

The Cowboys move to 3-0 and ORU falls to 1-2 after and second-straight in-state loss. The Golden Eagles lost big at Tulsa on Monday 90-71.

Next up, Oklahoma State heads to Brooklyn, New York for the Legends Classic and faces Texas A&M on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Central Time.
