Oklahoma State completed its comeback bid to upend ninth-ranked West Virginia on Senior Day at The Boone in dramatic fashion. The Cowboys knocked off the Mountaineers 45-41 to achieve bowl eligibility for the 13th consecutive season.

Oklahoma State fell behind early and never led until the final minute of game action. Both teams traded blows for much of the second half, and West Virginia led by as many as 17 — when it was 31-14 after a last second field goal to go into halftime — but the Pokes clawed their way back into it and scored the go-ahead when Taylor Cornelius connected with Tylan Wallace for an 11-yard score with 42 seconds left on the clock.

After surrendering 31 points in the opening 30 minutes of game action, OSU’s defense tightened the clamps on Heisman contender Will Grier by limiting the Mountaineers to zero points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, OSU added 10 unanswered in the third frame to cut WVU’s lead to 31-24 going into the fourth.

Things continuously got closer after West Virginia opened the fourth with a field goal to extend its lead to 10, 34-24. From there, OSU and West Virginia exchanged scores, but the Pokes drove home the dagger by getting big stops late and scoring at the 4:47 mark of the fourth and in the final minute.

Meanwhile, the OSU defense, redeemed as ever, clinched the game by batting down Will Grier’s final effort at the end zone.

Despite not having Justice Hill nor J.D. King, who both sat Saturday, Oklahoma State found gobs of success rushing against West Virginia. It was paced by Chuba Hubbard, who finished with 26 carries for 134 yards rushing. Taylor Cornelius had 106 (!) yards rushing on 13 attempts, and LD Brown added 26 on 4 attempts.

Tylan Wallace’s Biletnikoff campaign took a mini-hit on Saturday after getting a case of the drops and fumbling once, but he still finished with a respectable 7-reception 62-yard receiving stat line to complement his two score evening. (He also scored the go-ahead in the final seconds.) With WVU paying extra attention to Tylan, Dillon Stoner stepped up and led the team in receptions and receiving yards with 9 catches for 127.

OSU’s defense surrendered 364 yards through the air and 189 on the ground, but it rendered Will Grier fairly inefficient. He connected on only 27 of his 48 pass attempts, his least efficient outing of the season from a completion percentage perspective. He also finished with a passer rating of 133.7 — his lowest of the season. Cornelius, meanwhile, connected on 30 of his 46 pass attempts and scored six times (!) — 5 passing, 1 rushing — overcoming a two-interception first half to come up, ahem, big, in the final minute.

Oklahoma State faces TCU next Saturday in its regular season finale. The Horned Frogs are 5-6 after losing Saturday and will be clawing for their own bowl eligibility on their home turf.
