Instacap: OSU Falls 75-70 after Late-Game Surge from Texas Tech

The Cowboys made the trip to Lubbock in search of their first true road win and came up short behind yet another career game from an opposing Big 12 guard.

Jarrett Culver scored a career-high 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting (4 of 7 from 3) as he and the Red Raiders harpooned what looked like the Cowboys’ best shot at a Big 12 road win in the next three weeks.

Three Cowboys scored in double figures. Jeffrey Carroll scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting (2 of 4 from 3), Kendall Smith scored 11 on 5 of 11 (1 of 1 from 3) and Lindy Waters scored 10 on 4 of 6 (1 of 3 from 3).

The Red Raiders were led by Keenan Evans (26 points on 13 shots) and Jarrett Culver’s 25 points on 15 shots.

Oklahoma State fell behind as much as 6 early in the opening frame but held close to the home Raiders for much of the half. The Pokes went on an 8-0 run with six minutes remaining in the first and finished the half on an 18-5 run to take a 37-25 lead into the break.

The Pokes came out of halftime swinging and pushed their lead to 14, holding on for a good chunk of the second half.

The Cowboys out-shot the Red Raiders, out-rebounded them and out-hustled them in the first half and through a good portion of the second. But some hot shooting, some stagnant offense by the Pokes — and some questionable calls/non-call — saw the Raiders shrink the OSU lead to 1 with six minutes remaining.

From then it was a battle of who wanted it more and who was hottest. It appears both of the those titles were owned by the Raiders in Red and the Cowboys couldn’t close the deal.

The Cowboys lost the turnover battle 20-15 and allowed 7 more points off of turns to the Red Raiders.

Next up, Oklahoma State heads to Fayetteville to face the Razorbacks of Arkansas in the Big 12-SEC Challenge on Saturday at 5 p.m.
