Instant Recap: Oklahoma State Loses to No. 3 Kansas 90-66 in Gallagher-Iba Arena
Another tough night for the Cowboys.
It was a night of losses for the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State lost to No. 3 Kansas 90-66 on Tuesday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Moments before tip-off, Mike Boynton announced on the OSU pregame radio show that 7-foot-1 redshirt freshman Isaiah Miranda was no longer with the program to seek professional opportunities after dealing with personal matters. Â
It was evident early, though, that losing Miranda wouldn’t be the only loss the Cowboys would suffer on the night. The Jayhawks started the game up 6-0, and after the teams went back and forth for three possessions, KU never led by less than six points again. The strong start from KU led to a 48-33 halftime lead as the Jayhawks shot 68% from the field in the first half and outrebounded OSU 16-8.
The Jayhawks never really cooled off, though, despite the snowy conditions in Stillwater. KU finished shooting 62.1% from the field, compared to OSU’s 39.6%.
Against his former team, senior guard Bryce Thompson led the Cowboys with 20 points, though he had the worst plus/minus at -25. Thompson also tallied his 1,000th career point against the team he scored his first with.
Brandon Garrison and Jarius Hicklen scored 10 apiece as the only other Cowboys to score double digits. KU’s entire starting five reached double digits.
OSU remains the only Big 12 team to not have a conference win yet at 0-4 in league play and 8-9 overall, dipping below .500 for the first time since getting over the hump Dec. 17. The Cowboys’ next chance for a Big 12 win will be Saturday on the road against Kansas State, which is 13-4 after upsetting No. 9 Baylor in overtime as OSU was tipping off its game against KU.
