Jacobe Smith Remains Unbeaten with Submission Victory at UFC 317

Jacobe Smith won via submission for the first time in his career.

Smith sunk in a rear-naked choke on Niko Price on the UFC 317 prelims to advance to 11-0 in his blossoming MMA career.

At -2500, Smith was the biggest favorite in UFC history, according to the broadcast, but the veteran Price was able to see the second round. For the most part, Smith pummeled Price in the first round, but Smith came out of that pummeling looking a little gassed. Price then landed a shot late in the round that Smith had to endure before he took the advantage again.

Price whiffed on a wild backfist attempt, opening up a stiff left jab from Smith. Price stumbled away and took a head kick for his troubles, but the horn sounded not long after.

Smith controlled the second round from the top, steering clear of Price’s submission attempts before slickly sinking in his choke and ending the fight.

Since his first pro fight in late 2021, Smith is up to 11-0 and is one of UFC’s premier prospects of the welterweight division. He beat Christien Savoie this past October on Dana White’s Contender Series to secure a UFC contract. Smith then filled in on late notice for a UFC Fight Night event in January and knocked out Preston Parsons in just 1:13.

Smith was an All-American for the Oklahoma State wrestling team in 2018 at 174 pounds. That came after Smith won two NJCAA national titles at NEO.
