You just thought college football season was over.

There is still one more major award yet to be given out and James Washington was named as one of its 21 nominees on Monday.

The Lombardi Award is given by the Houston, Texas-based Lombardi Foundation to “an NCAA Division I player, regardless of position, based on performance, leadership, character and resiliency.”

Washington was tops in the nation with 1,549 receiving yards on his way to breaking the all-time receiving record at Oklahoma State as a senior. His Biletnikoff Award is the third won by an OSU receiver, the most by any school. Washington was the only wide receiver nominated for the Lombardi Award.

The group of 21 nominees also includes Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, Texas safety DeShon Elliot and two-way adopted son of Mike Gundy, Iowa State’s Joel Lanning.

The nominees will be narrowed down this week to seven semifinalists to be announced on January 22. The list will be whittled down even further to four finalists invited to attend the award presentation on January 27 at Lone Star College in Houston. That ceremony will be televised on ESPN3.
