Former Cowboy, and Olympic Silver Medalist, Jamill Kelly has been named the head coach of the Tar Heel Wrestling Club.

Kelly is also an assistant on staff at UNC, hired in October 2020. Kelly is a 2004 Silver Medalist, a two-time World Team Member, and a four-time member of the U.S. National Team. Like UNC head coach Coleman Scott and fellow assistant coach Gary Wayne Harding, Kelly competed at Oklahoma State, as Kelly was in Stillwater from 1997 to 2000.

Kelly came to UNC from Arizona State, where he was an assistant for two seasons. He has also coached at Stanford, NC State, Cal Poly and Harvard. At Arizona State, Kelly helped coach nine All-America wrestlers, including a national champion at the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships (Zahid Valencia, 174lbs.).

Kelly served as the USA Cadet World Team Coach from 2013 to 2015 and a coach for the USA Junior World Team in 2016.

Kelly is replacing another former Cowboy Kenny Monday, who was recently hired as the coach of the Spire Institute in Ohio.
