How Jawun Evans could Affect Recruitment of Five-star Guard Sexton

It’s not surprising that a former five-star guard could play a factor in the recruitment of another five-star guard to OSU. Jawun Evans (the former five-star), could play a major factor in the recruitment of five-star guard Collin Sexton (the current five-star), who is making an official visit to Stillwater this weekend.

“I’ve been there [to Stillwater] already before the USA Basketball stuff,” Sexton told Rivals about Oklahoma State. I talked to their point guard Jawun Evans who should be going to the draft after this season. He was at the Nike Skills and he should be going pro, so that’s appealing.”

Evans was the No. 27 overall player in the 2015 class, so it’s not shocking that he could test the professional waters next season. He was growing into his own last year, before being sidelined for the season with a shoulder injury and missing a good part of the season.

Now it appears OSU is recruiting with the possibility that this may be Evans final year at OSU before going pro.

Sexton is a combo guard and a top 10 player in the 2017 class, who will play point guard at the next level. So his decision will hinge on playing time as a freshman — given his potential in college could be one-and-done status — meaning Evans future could be closely tied to his decision.

As for Sexton’s recruitment, prospects only receive five official visits and, even though his latest list of top schools consists of 10, that logically places Oklahoma State in his final five schools. The Cowboys are competing with Kansas, NC State, Alabama, who have all confirmed official visits with the star guard out of Mableton, GA. He has yet to make a final decision on where he will take his final visit, but Memphis and Georgia Tech appear to be competing for that final visit.
