Jax Forrest Among Four Cowboys to Win Cyclone Open

Jax Forrest had a second successful weekend at the college level.

Oklahoma State’s early enrollee 133-pounder was one of four Cowboys to win at the Cyclone Open on Sunday in Ames.

Forrest went 4-0 at the event, beating his first two opponents via technical fall by a combined score of 36-5. He pinned his semifinal opponent in the first period before being matched up against Reineri Andreu Ortega in the final. 

It was a battle of U23 world champions, as Ortega won two U23 world titles for Cuba, whereas Forrest won his for the United States in 2025. Ortega is 27 and reportedly in search of some eligibility to wrestle for the Cyclones. Forrest beat him 4-0 with an escape and a takedown in the third period.

Gary Steen (125), Cutter Sheets (157) and Austin Johnson (197) also won their respective brackets.

Tagen Jamison, wrestling unattached, made his season debut at 149 pounds in Ames and came second to Missouri’s Seth Mendoza. Jamison was the Cowboys’ starter at 141 pounds the past two seasons.

That 149-pound bracket also featured an impressive performance from Beau Hickman, a freshman from Tuttle. Hickman finished third with his only loss also coming to Mendoza.

Benjamin Mower finished fifth at heavyweight and JJ McComas took sixth at 141.

A pair of Pokes also went to the Roger Denker Open.

Ronnie Ramirez wrestled unattached at 133 pounds, preserving his final date while still being able to redshirt. Ramirez stormed through his bracket, pinning his first three foes before beating Central Missouri’s Gavin Moore with a 20-5 tech in the final.

Kolter Burton took fourth at 149 pounds.
