JD King Surpasses 5,000 Career Rushing Yards
An illustrious high school career for Oklahoma State pledge J.D. King reached another high this past week. King, who plays for small school Fitzgerald High School in Georgia, reached an incredible 5,000 yards rushing for his career this past week. The accomplishment nearly places him on an elite list of Georgia high school tailback stars who have rushed for 6,000+ in their Georgia preps career. Here’s the very short list that have 6,000+ via the Georgia High School Football Historians Association:
Monte Williams – 8,844 (1997-2000)
Robert Toomer – 7,841 (1988-1991)
Chris Clay – 7,695 (2004-2007)
Eddie Dixon – 7,322 (1980-1983)
Brett Millican – 6,923 (1992-1995)
Greg Williams – 6,920 (1980-1983)
Duranta Dunson – 6,915 (2011-2014)
Kawon Bryant – 6,903 (2011-2014)
Micah Andrews – 6,429 (1999-2002)
Charles Grant – 6,385 (1994-1997)
Don Calloway – 6,374 (1996-1999)
Audell Grace – 6,349 (1991-1994)
Darius Marshall – 6,338 (2003-2006)
Travis Evans – 6,279 (2000-2003)
Marteze Waller – 6,260 (2008-2011)
Chris Cole – 6,155 (1991-1994)
Herschel Walker – 6,137 (1976-1979)
Barring a heroic performance to end the season, King will likely come up just short of the 6,000 mark for his career. However if his team weren’t so dang good at football — and if he had more than one carry as a freshman — there’s a good chance he could have slid right around where Herschel Walker finished his prep career.
Even more incredible, he had 1 carry for 0 yards as a freshman, & he has barely played past halftime if at all in 7/9 games this year.

King has one regular season game remaining on the schedule on Friday against Thomasville before the playoffs, according to MaxPreps.
King rushed for 1,559 yards on 214 Carries with 15 TD’s his sophomore year, 2,432 yards on 342 carries with 33 TD’s his junior year, and has rushed for 1,061 yards on 133 carries with 15 TD’s so far this year. At 5-foot-11 and 205-pounds, King and Canadian speedster Chuba Hubbard should be able to step in immediately to help replace the departing seniors in Chris Carson, Rennie Childs, and Barry J. Sanders.
