Jeffrey Carroll Signs with Italian Squad Bergamo, Pair of Pokes to Play in Poland

Former Oklahoma State hooper Jeffrey Carroll is headed to Italy.

He’ll play his second season of professional basketball with Bergamo Basket 2014, it was announced Saturday. Carroll spent last season with the South Bay Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate. Carroll made 11 G League starts last season and played in 24 games total. He averaged 9.7 points and 2.8 rebounds a game.

Bergamo plays in the Italy’s Serie A2, a league that its second on the countries promotion/regulation system. Bergamo made it to the semifinals of the league this past season, and with the addition of Carroll, the squad could be in contention to fight for promotion.

Based solely off a Google search, Bergamo looks like a beautiful place. It’s located northeast of Milan.

Some of Carroll’s former teammates also recently announced new European adventures.

Leyton Hammonds joined Asseco Arka Gdynia of Poland’s EBL. Hammonds is quickly becoming a veteran of the European scene, having played in Finland and Hungary in his first two season out of OSU.

With Hungary’s Egis Kormend this past season, Hammonds averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and an assists in his 45 games with the club. Egis Kormend finished the regular season in first and won the Alpe Adria Cup, a tournament where he averaged 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists on his way to being named the tournament’s player of the year and finals MVP.

Hammonds will face former OSU teammate Tavarius Shine in Poland this season, as Shine recently made the move to MKS Dabrowa Gornicza in the EBL. Shine played with Sweden’s BC Lulea this past season, where he averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals in his 38 games.
