Jelani Woods Moves to Cowboy Back for Oklahoma State in 2018 and Beyond

When Oklahoma State signed Jelani Woods in February, I was excited about the future of the QB position in Stillwater. Between Woods, Keondre Wudtee, the Oil Baron and Spencer Sanders, I figured, somebody had to hit. I’m still excited nearly 11 months later, but one of those players is now out of the equation at QB.

According to multiple sources, Woods has moved to Cowboy Back and will remain there for the foreseeable future. There are have been clues that have pointed to this in recent weeks. Mike Gundy didn’t mention Woods when talking about Sanders last week, even though he did mention Wudtee and Cornelius. Also, Woods was photographed at the Camping World Bowl hanging with the Cowboy Backs.

On multiple levels, this makes sense. Woods came into school at 6-7 and 235 pounds. That’s what he started at! Also, I was told by different people earlier in the year that he was struggling quite a bit at quarterback so it makes sense, with the plethora of QBs (and inevitability that Sanders will start sooner rather than later) that Woods would change positions.

It could be a boon for a position that could use a spark, too. One source told me that OSU is hoping Woods can blossom into a Brandon Pettigrew-type because of his body, which is incredibly ambitious but also worth a shot both because Woods is so huge and because of who OSU has coming in at Cowboy Back.

Woods was recruited as a pro-style QB and had offers from Louisville, Michigan, South Carolina and Kansas State. He will join Keenen Brown, Sione Finefeuiaki and Britton Abbott in 2018.
