Jordan Burton Posts Impressive 40, Vertical and Broad Jump at Pro Day
Several Cowboys had big showings during Oklahoma State’s Pro Day held on Thursday morning. Former OSU linebacker Jordan Burton had one of the most impressive days — especially for someone who was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.
“It’s an excellent opportunity,” said Burton. “Something you dream about as a kid, finally coming to fruition. I was just blessed to come out here and do what I could.
“I felt good. We hit most of the numbers we wanted to hit.”
He should feel pretty good about his numbers. Here’s a look at how he would have compared to the linebackers who took part in the Combine last week.
- 4.5 second 40-yard dash (2nd*)
- 10’10” broad jump (1st by two inches)
- 40-inch vertical leap (1st by 2.5 inches)
- 11.65 seconds in the 60-yard shuffle (4th)
While his vertical and broad jump numbers are impressive, his 40-yard dash is equally so.
*It could be argued that Burton’s 40 time would have been the fastest among linebackers at the Combine. Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers was required to take part in linebacker drills since that was his position designation. He planned on participating with the defensive backs only but just two weeks prior to the Combine the NFL advised him of the rule. So as a technicality, the NFL required he do both in order to test at his projected position, safety.
Peppers ran a 4.46 and next was LSU’s Duke Riley with 4.58. Had Peppers not been required to work out both days, Burton’s 4.5 would have been fastest.
Here’s that 40.

Burton truly turned some heads on Thursday and it could pay dividends for him later this spring.
