Kevin Peterson Wants to Stick It to the SEC in the Sugar Bowl
Berry Tramel wrote a nice post today about why it’s important for the Big 12 for OSU to beat Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl (mostly because the SEC has owned the Big 12 in the last decade). He quoted Kevin Peterson who seems, uh, fired up about getting after it with Laquon Treadwell and Co.
“We gotta win,” Peterson told the Oklahoman. “We gotta win. We gotta go out there and show ‘em we’re the best conference. We play good ball here. We send guys to the NFL here. We have great players here. We gotta go out there and get the win. That’s the only thing that can really shut some SEC mouths.”
I like that. Shut some SEC mouths. It’s not a direct shot at Ole Miss (which you don’t want to do), but he’s clearly not shying away from the moment. Peterson also talked about his career and the fact that he has no regrets. This always makes me nostalgic.
“When I came in, I was already hungry. I was ready to show everyone what I could do. You don’t get as many shots to do that when you come from a small school like I did. Guys like Justin Gilbert really showed me that once you get to this level, everyone is on the same level as you. It’s the same playing field, everyone has the same opportunity to do the same things. You have to put yourself above people.
“You always have some thoughts from certain games. You missed a tackle, you gave up a touchdown, things like that, but I don’t regret anything that I’ve done here. This has been the most enjoyable part of my life. All of my best friends are her. I feel like I’ve been able to do the right things here to set myself up to continue on the right path for the rest of my life.”
Great stuff from one of the good ones.
