King of the Game Recap: OSU vs. Kansas

Published

on

So long, seniors. It was a pleasure to watch you in BPS for the last few years. Luckily, we still get a bowl game and one more chance to see this team take the field.

Before we award the points for today’s big win, let’s go over the rules: every player gets a point for a correct pick. We tally up the points each week and the player with the most points at the end of OSU’s season (bowl game included) wins! Wins what? Bragging rights.

Let’s recap our categories from the week. (Here is the original post.)

• Bet Against the Spread: OSU (- 40)
Surprisingly the Cowboys covered, winning by 41 points. It didn’t look like they would pull it off for awhile, but the Cowboys ended the game with 17 straight points.

• More Receiving Yards: Kansas
Kansas quarterback Peyton Bender threw for 172 yards on Saturday. James Washington caught eight receptions for 106 yards. Point Kansas.

• Over/Under: 27 points
For the first time since Texas, Oklahoma State held a team under 39 points.

• King of the Game: Marcell Ateman
Of the options — James Washington, J.D. King, Marcell Ateman, Jalen McClesky — two were great. We’ve talked about Washington’s eight catches for 106 yards and a TD. Fellow senior Marcell Ateman had four catches for 107 yards and a couple where he had no business making the catch. Normally the TD would sway the vote, but in a game where OSU scored a lot, I’m going with Ateman who made some GAM plays and averaged 26.8 yards a catch.

Let’s award points!

Phillip Slavin – 2 points

Bet Against the Spread: Kansas
More Receiving Yards: James Washington
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: James Washington
Prop Bet: The stadium is half empty at the start of the second half. Partially because no one shows up in the first place, but also because OSU is up big at the half.
Ackrut.

Kyle Cox – 1 point(s)

Bet Against the Spread: Kansas
More Receiving Yards: James Washington
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: J.D. King
Prop Bet: OSU’s defense forces four turnovers.
They got one interception today.

Nick Welch – 3 points

Bet Against the Spread: Kansas
More Receiving Yards: Kansas
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: Marcell Ateman
Prop Bet: With a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter, Mason Rudolph, James Washington, and Marcell Ateman leave the field to a standing ovation from the half-full crowd. The Oil Baron takes the field and shows off his “get away from the cop speed” for two 4th quarter Cowboy scores.
Half right. They did leave to applause, but Cornelius didn’t see pay dirt.

Enemy: David – 2 points

Bet Against the Spread: Oklahoma State
More Receiving Yards: James Washington
Over/Under: Under
King of the Game: James Washington
Prop Bet: 6 – the number of references to Baker Mayfield’s shenanigans last week, and/or the pregame handshake controversy. It’s not directly related to this game, but the announcers will be desperate for something else to talk about by the end of the first half.
It got brought up a couple of times, but not six that I can recall.

Fan: Adam Mikles – 2 points

Bet Against the Spread: Kansas
More Receiving Yards: Kansas
Over/Under: Over
King of the Game: Jalen McClesky
Prop Bet: Specials teams actually does what they are supposed to do on the last game of the regular season. No missed FGs.  Actually return a punt for a sizeable amount of yards. No TD though. Don’t want to get too wild.
Ammendola was a perfect 3-fot-3 on field goals and 7-for-7 on extra points.

TOTAL

Enemy – 37
Fan – 32
Phillip – 22
Nick – 22
Kyle – 20

At this point anyone reaching the enemy picker will require a hail mary. I hope I pick a great fan picker for the bowl game.

If you want to be our bowl game fan picker, guess which bowl OSU will play in. I’ll pick from those who choose correctly, one person to play.

You’d better know your stuff!
