Jim Knowles is on a bit of a hot streak with 2021 linebackers, and he might have found his next hit.

Jackie Marshall, out of East St. John High School in Louisiana, announced a top five on Monday of Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston and Louisiana Tech. Here is a quick profile on a player who could be OSU’s next commit.

The Data

Who Is He?

Marshall is a relentless edge rusher and overall athlete.

At a The Opening Regional last March (still in his sophomore year of high school), Marshall was clocked at 4.81 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and he put up a 30.7-inch vertical.

Recruiting sites list him as a linebacker, but he isn’t a traditional linebacker. At East St. John High, he plays more like a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker. He lines up where a defensive end would, but he doesn’t often put his hand in the ground.

He is listed at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, but he is so athletic that he plays some running back and even takes some snaps as a wildcat quarterback.

Offers Marshall has outside of his top five include Ole Miss, Michigan State, Washington State, Arizona, Miami and Memphis.

How He’d Fit in Stillwater

He is a perfect fit for the types of guys OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles is bringing in.

He is similar to Trace Ford, Calvin Bundage and commit Collin Oliver (except not from Edmond-Santa Fe), where he can be a disrupter off the edge, but he is athletic enough to do more.

If he were to commit, he’d be the Cowboys’ third outside linebacker in the 2021 class, joining Oliver and fellow Louisianan Kolbe Fields.

Expected Commitment Date

Marshall hasn’t yet said when he plans to commit, but him being down to five programs is obviously a sign that things are progressing.
