Oregon offensive coordinator and former Oklahoma State running backs coach Marcus Arroyo is taking his talents to The Strip. No, not that strip.

On Wednesday, Arroyo was named the next head coach of the UNLV Rebels. He’ll replace Tony Sanchez who went five years without a winning record (20-40).

Arroyo left Oklahoma State after spending 2015-16 as its running backs coach, and as a key recruiter for the Pokes, to join Oregon as co-offensive coordinator and QB/TEs coach in 2017. He was elevated to OC in 2018.

Arroyo helped led the Ducks to a top 15 regular season in scoring offense. They’ve been among the the top 25 in FBS teams in scoring in each of his three years on staff. They also rank in the top 25 in points per drive and offense efficiency in 2019.

The touted recruiter who welcomed the likes of Chuba Hubbard, Justice Hill and J.D. King to OSU, helped bring Oregon the Pac-12’s top-ranked recruiting class in each of the last two seasons.

Former players and colleagues voiced their support.

Spencer Will Not by Next Man up in Boca Raton

In other former OSU assistant news, former Cowboys defensive coordinator will not be retained as the head coach following his interim term leading Florida Atlantic despite support from his locker room.

Spencer spent 2019 as the DC of the Owls after one year holding the same position at Charlotte. He was dismissed from his post at Oklahoma State following the 2017 season.

The head coaching position at FAU will go to recently dismissed Florida State head coach WIllie Taggart. No other staff changes have been announced by FAU.
