Markel Brown enters top 10 blockers in school history
Yesterday Markel Brown recorded his 75th career block, which means he’s now inside the top 10 all-time shot-blockers in OSU history.
Let me take a moment to remind you that he’s a 6’3 guard.
Here’s the top 10 list:
1. Byron Houston – 222 blocks
2. Joe Atkinson – 215
3. Andre Williams – 214
4. Bryant Reeves – 194
5. Leroy Combs – 167
6. Ivan McFarlin – 156
7. Marcus Dove – 101
8. Desmond Mason – 92
9. Johnny Pittman – 91
10. Markel Brown – 75
Other than Houston, inch-for-inch it’s hard to argue Markel, isn’t it?
The only players on this list even close to his 6’3 height are Houston and Desmond at 6’5 and Markel will most likely finish his career ahead of Desmond. I’ll still take Houston, for obvious reasons, but he also played on the block for most of his career. Undersized, but still on the block.
As Anthony Slater pointed out, I bet half or more of Markel’s blocks have come on 3-point attempts.
As @franfraschilla mentioned, that's Markel Brown's 78th career block. At least 25 of those have to be on three attempts, which is rare.

Just one more statistical measure of the value Markel has brought to the table his entire career, and one more reason I think he’ll go down as one of the more underrated all-around players in OSU history.
