Mike Boynton Tweets Congratulations After Bryce Thompson’s KU Pledge
Boynton takes the high road.

Mike Boynton didn’t reel in the latest big fish that he was after, with five-star in-state prospect Bryce Thompson taking his talents to Lawrence, but that didn’t stop the Cowboy head coach from keeping it classy.
Without specifically mentioning Thompson to avoid recruiting violations, Boynton took to Twitter to offer felicitations to the Booker T. Washington star who he had been recruiting as long as anyone.
Congrats to that young man and his family. Loved having the opportunity to build a strong relationship with all of them. A special group of people and we wish them all the best… Except maybe twice a year.

From all accounts, Boynton had built a strong bond with Bryce and the Thompson family. OSU was the first school to extend an offer to Thompson and did so just days before Boynton was announced as the head coach. That long history may shed some light on what Kyle Boone was talking about here.
Thompson just made calls to the coaches who recruited him to officially inform them of his decision. Visibly upset having to break the news to the coaches he had to turn down.

Of course those with a more cynical point of view might say that the move is self-serving. Everything Boynton does, good or bad, can be used to recruit other elite prospects to or away from Stillwater. It looks much better to publicly take the high road.
While Boynton is well aware of his social media imprint, I choose to take this for what it was — a classy move by a classy coach who knows there are plenty of other big fish in the sea.
