Mississippi State’s All-Time Leading Passer Will Rogers Joins Eric Morris’ Staff

STILLWATER — Eric Morris dropped an interesting little nugget Tuesday: former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has joined the Cowboys’ staff as an offensive analyst.

No relation to famous Okie Will Rogers, the former quarterback threw for 14,773 yards across five college football seasons (four at Mississippi State and the final one at Washington). That stint with the Bulldogs was under Mike Leach, who also coached Morris at Texas Tech.

Rogers is Mississippi State’s all-time leading passer, and by some margin. He threw for 12,315 yards in his time as a Bulldog. Current Dallas Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott is second on that list with 9,376 career yards. Rogers’ 2021 and 2022 seasons are the two top seasons in passing yards in Mississippi State history.

He’s also the Bulldogs’ career leader in passing touchdowns with 94 — 24 more than second-place Prescot.

Including his year at Washington, Rogers threw for 108 passing TDs in his career, which ranks 22nd in the history of the sport — placing Rogers between Russell Wilson (109) and Tajh Boyd (107).

All that’s to say, Rogers sounds like a valuable guy to have cutting his coaching teeth in Stillwater, especially given his familiarity with Leach’s system, which obviously bleeds into Morris’ system.
