NFL Update: Ogbah Takes it Back, Chuba Takes a Step Back

It was an up-and-down week for Pokes in the pros.

With several OSU alums on a bye week in Week 7, we have a noticeably lighter update for you, but there were still some former Cowboys making plays.

Emmanuel Ogbah Takes it Back

Ogbah continues to make life hard on opposing QBs, but his Dolphins continue to struggle.

The former OSU edge rusher was, again, the Dolphins’ highest-graded defender (90.9) and has 10 QB pressures in the last two weeks. He ranks fourth among all edge defenders in the NFL on the year (89.5).

One of those pressures resulted in Ogbah stripping Falcons QB Matt Ryan and Miami recovered, down six with just under six minutes remaining. Miami would score off of that turnover to take the lead, only to lose on a late Atlanta field goal.

Other than the actual sack numbers which have been lacking — many have posited that Ogbah is leaving cash on the table in a contract year — he has been the best defender the Dolphins have. It remains to be seen if they’ll recognize that value or if someone else will scoop up the QB harasser still in his prime.

Tough Go for Chuba, Panthers in Loss

Chuba didn’t get much going against the Giants, carrying the ball 12 times for just 28 yards, and his Panthers didn’t get much going either. They lost 25-3 in New York. Chuba did haul in four of five targets for 28 more yards through the air.

It was Hubbard’s lowest rushing outing in his four starts and the game prior in Week 3 when he spelled injured Christian McCaffrey. But the Panthers struggled to move the ball at all against the Giants on Sunday, being outgained 302-173 and mustering only 56 total rushing yards.

McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 6, so he won’t return until Week 9 at the earliest, meaning Chuba has at least a couple of more weeks to show off.

On a lighter note, can someone get the man a towel?

Other Notes

• Tylan Wallace and his Ravens took a tough L, 41-17, from the Bengals, but Tylan has yet to find a way into the Ravens’ receiver rotation. Through seven games the former Biletnikoff finalist has totaled just nine offensive snaps and has yet to receive a target. He has logged six tackles on special teams. I know he likes contact, but you’d hope he gets a chance to display his full range of skills at some point this year.

• Tre Flowers got to try on his new Bengals jersey. The former safety-turned-NFL-corner was active with this new team for the first time on Sunday. The Bengals earned a nice win over division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens and Flowers saw the field in 14 defensive snaps and logged a tackle.

• Matt Ammendola missed his only field goal attempt from 48 yards in the Jets’ 54-13 blowout loss to the Patriots. He did make his one PAT.
