Nine Cowboys Ranked in First Wrestling Coaches Panel Rankings
Pre-allocations released for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
The NCAA released its pre-allocations and coaches ranking for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament.
There will be 10 automatic qualifiers for winning the Big 12 Championship. They will be joined by four additional qualifiers at 125, 133, 149, 165, 197 and 285; three additional qualifiers at 141, 174 and 184; and two additional qualifiers at 157 pounds.
Here are how the Cowboys rank in the coaches rankings.
125: No. 15 Trevor Mastrogiovanni
141: No. 24 Dusty Hone
149: No. 4 Boo Lewallen
157: No. 13 Wyatt Sheets
165: No. 4 Travis Wittlake
174: No. 11 Dustin Plott
184: No. 6 Dakota Geer
197: No. 13 AJ Ferrari
285: No. 25 Austin Harris
The chart below explains the qualifying process for this season.
The only weight where Oklahoma State is not ranked is 133. Daton Fix will make his return to wrestling this weekend and the four-match criteria explained above becomes crucial for him.
Fix needs to get three matches in this weekend at the Cowboy Challenge Tournament, and another one in the Bedlam dual, to be eligible for a NCAA tournament selection. If he does not get those matches in, he will need to win the Big 12 tournament to qualify.
With a few Big 12 teams entered in the Cowboy Challenge this weekend, it becomes critical for some of the individuals that are “on the bubble” to perform well and improve their seeds for the Big 12 tournament.
