Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon spoke with the media on Friday afternoon for the first time after video was released of him punching a woman was released this past week. Here’s some notes and quotes from his media appearance in Norman that was aired on television.

  • First off, Mixon thanks everyone for coming. “I’m here to basically apologize to Ms. (Amelia) Molitor. I apologize to Coach Stoops. I apologize to President (David) Boren, the AD (Joe Castiglione), my teammates and most of all my family. I let a lot of people down.”
  • “It’s never okay to retaliate and hit a woman the way I did.” Said the reason that Mixon elected to stay at Oklahoma was because the forgiveness he got from Coach Bob Stoops and President Boren.
  • Mixon admits he wishes the video would have come out sooner, says it would have been better for everybody involved. Also adds the video still haunts him in his dreams to this day. “There’s no way you should ever hit a female,” he said.
  • Mixon: “I was young. Right now I’m 20 years old and I’ve grown up a lot [since the incident.].” Said he takes full responsibility for what happened that night in Pickleman’s.
  • On the parking incident [where he ripped up a ticket in front of a female parking attendant], Mixon admits he was frustrated about it. “I shouldn’t have done it,” he said. “I should have taken the ticket, smiled, and walked away.”
  •  “I’m still seeking out counseling,” on his rehabilitation from the incident.
  • Emphasized multiple times he is not currently focused on his NFL future and has not made a decision on whether he will stay or go.
  • Mixon said he has wanted to apologize to Miss Molitor for a long time, but was advised against it.
  • Showing some remorse when asked about what Molitor did: “It doesn’t really matter what she (Amelia Molitor) did that night. It’s all on me. I take full responsibility for what happened that night. It’s never OK to hit a woman. I would preach that to anybody. Hopefully people around the world learn from my mistake.”

Mixon remained firm that he had not made his decision whether to come back for his final year of elibility or if he would be declaring for the NFL draft. He made it clear he was there just for the press conference today and that decision would be coming down the road.
