What Do Oklahoma State And Alabama Have In Common?
The short answer to this question in the headline is: Nothing. Absolutely zero things. Sure, Mike Gundy and Nick Saban are both part of an exclusive list of coaches who have won 100 games with their current teams, but as far as the way both squads are constructed and both teams have performed, Alabama and Oklahoma State have very little in common.
Except for one thing.
Both have been pretty awesome in big time games over the past four seasons. They are actually the only two schools that have gone 3-0 or better against 6-0 or better teams. Here are the wins for both schools.
Oklahoma State
- 2013: Baylor (9-0)
- 2015: TCU (8-0)
- 2016: West Virginia (6-0)
Alabama
- 2014: Mississippi State (9-0)
- 2015: LSU (7-0)
- 2015: Clemson (14-0)
- 2016: Texas A&M (6-0)
Alabama’s list is, uh, slightly more impressive considering one of those games was for the national championship, but it’s still a great achievement for Mike Gundy and Co. to have been a part of.
“I was very pleased with our coaching staff,” said Mike Gundy after the win on Saturday. “West Virginia has done very, very well up to this point of not letting teams score points. We were able to score quite a few points, obviously, and our defense did a really nice job with turnovers.
“The most complete game that we’ve played this year. I had mentioned that there were times where each of the three phases played better than the others, and a couple of times this year maybe considerably better than the others.”
