The big win wasn’t enough to keep the Cowboys’ spot.

The Cowboys did everything they could to move up the rankings, or at least hold their spot. But they still dropped in both major polls that were released Sunday.

Oklahoma State dropped from 13 to 14 in the AP Top 25 and from 14 to 15 according to the Coaches poll. The Cowboys, essentially, got leapfrogged by a fellow Big 12 team which they’ll face soon enough. Before we look around the league, here are the two rankings.

Rank AP Poll Coaches
1 Texas (35) Georgia (42)
2 Georgia (23) Texas (10)
3 Ohio State (5) Ohio State (3)
4 Alabama Alabama
5 Ole Miss Ole Miss
6 Tennessee Oregon
7 Missouri Tennessee
8 Miami (FL) Penn State (T8th)
9 Oregon Missouri (T8th)
10 Penn State Utah
11 USC Miami (FL)
12 Utah USC
13 Kansas State Oklahoma
14 Oklahoma State Kansas State
15 Oklahoma Oklahoma State
16 LSU LSU
17 Notre Dame Michigan
18 Michigan Notre Dame
19 Louisville Clemson
20 Iowa State Louisville
21 Clemson Iowa State
22 Nebraska Nebraska
23 Northern Illinois Memphis
24 Illinois Texas A&M
25 Texas A&M UNLV

While the Cowboys put a hurting on Tulsa, Kansas State was welcoming Arizona to the Big 12. Strangely enough, the two teams’ meeting on Saturday was scheduled before Arizona joined the league so it doesn’t count toward either’s conference record.

The purple Wildcats’ 31-7 win over the then-No. 20 Wildcats allowed them to switch spots with OSU in each poll, which makes sense. Of course, that will all be worked out in a couple of weeks when OSU heads to Manhattan.

No. 12 Utah defeated Utah State 38-21 and didn’t move in the polls, which makes for a Top 15 matchup when the Utes head to Stillwater Saturday. Iowa State climbed one spot to 20 in the AP ranking and two spots to 21 in the Coaches poll, despite an early bye week.
