Oklahoma State Falls to Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena as Cowboys Close Out Dual Season

It was a tough day in Iowa for the Cowboys as they ran into a buzzsaw in Carver-Hawkeye Arena with Iowa defeating the Cowboys 28-7.

Things opened up at 165 with what ultimately was one of the better matches of the dual. Wyatt Sheets was up by one heading into the third period when an escape and takedown for Iowa Patrick’s Kennedy made it 5-3. Sheets got an escape and took a really clean shot before a beautiful counter by Kennedy gave him the takedown and a 7-4 win.

Things never really went OSU’s way following that. Dustin Plott was upset in the next match, which absolutely could not happen for the Cowboys to have any real shot in the dual, and the momentum pretty much all went Iowa’s way from then out. Travis Wittlake was taken down at the end of the second period by Abe Assad and fell 4-2. Luke Surber got an early takedown against NCAA finalist Jacob Warner, but a second-period rideout for Warner tipped the match back to Iowa and gave Warner a 3-2 win.

OSU was a little outmatched at HWT and 125 and fell in each of the next two matches, including Spencer Lee’s final college dual bout.

Daton Fix got the Cowboys in the win column with an 11-3 Major Decision over Brody Teske, but Iowa answered at 141 as No. 2 Real Woods beat Carter Young 7-0. At 149, Victor Voinovich pushed Max Murin and got the first takedown, but Murin came back to win 4-3.

Kaden Gfeller closed things out with a win in his final dual as a Cowboy when he rode out Cobe Siebrecht in ultimate tiebreakers.

This was the final dual of the season for the Cowboys as they finish out the season with a 14-3 record. Next for them is the Big 12 Championship starting March 4th in Tulsa.
