Oklahoma State the Favorite to Land Former SMU Running Back Commit

Oklahoma State is still in need of a running back commitment for their 2018 class. If at least one recruiting site is to be believed, they could fill that opening soon.

On Tuesday afternoon, 2018 three-star running back Jahmyl Jeter out of William J. Brennan High School (San Antonio, Texas) announced on twitter that he was decommitting from SMU.

“I would like to thank all the coaches at SMU for showing me a lot of love at their school and the staff. I will be decommitting from SMU.”

Jeter made his commitment to the ponies back in May, but has since picked up offers from New Mexico, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State, bringing his total number to seven. That list also includes Iowa State, Bowling Green, North Texas, and SMU.

Jeter’s decision comes just a couple of days after he made a visit to Oklahoma State.

With the decision to reopen his recruitment, OSU now appears to be in the drivers seat to Jeter. According to 247Sports recruiting insiders Brian Perroni and EJ Holland, OSU is now the favorite to land him. Both have a fairly solid track record of picking recruits, with over 69% accuracy. Peronni is important to note because he covers Texas A&M, the other team that would most likely benefit from Jeter’s decommitment.

As a junior, Jeter totaled 1,576 yards and 16 touchdowns on 194 carries for an average of 8.12 yards an attempt, so adding the now former SMU pledge to the fold would be a big addition given his production and need for OSU.

Despite the depth of youth the Cowboys have at the running back position, the 6-foot-0, 199-pound back would make a solid addition to the program given OSU’s inability to recruit the position in the 2018 class as a whole. Take a look at his HUDL highlights to see for yourself.
