Oklahoma State First to Offer In-state Standout Jacobe Johnson

OSU is the first to offer this Oklahoma standout.

Multi-sport athlete Jacobe Johnson, a Class of 2023 athlete from Mustang, Oklahoma, reported his first Division I offer from Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Johnson plays basketball as a combo guard, and football as a receiver/defensive back.

Here’s an introduction to Johnson, one of only about six offers in the 2023 class. First, Johnson the hooper.

Basketball: Johnson lists himself as a point guard, shooting guard and small forward, which seems ambitious until you watch and realize just how versatile he is and how Mustang uses him. As a 6-foot-3 athlete, there are few at the high school level — even as a freshman — who can match his first step. He was named to the COAC All-Conference third team last season.

Football: As a freshman on varsity last season, Johnson played both sides of the ball as a cornerback and wideout, doing the brunt of his damage as a defender who can come off the edge and apply pressure and a downfield disruptor.

There’s a lot of plays here where his instincts do the talking. He knows when to turn and run, when to look up and track the ball, when to get physical and use his leverage. A lot of stuff you can’t necessarily coach — or stuff that may be difficult for young players to consume. There’s a lot of potential that explains why OSU is jumping in as the first offer.

Johnson is believed to be the fifth total offer in the 2023 class to date and the third athlete, though OSU is targeting him as a cornerback/defender. OSU has also offered 2023 standout cornerback Malik Muhammad — A.J. Green’s cousin.

In addition to Muhammad and Johnson, OSU also has early offers out to running back Reuben Owens, athlete Johntay Cook and athlete Jaxon Howard.
