Oklahoma State Lands at No. 14 in Final AP Poll, Four Spots Below Where it Started the Year
The season is over. Alabama is the national champ, and most of the rest of college football is already thinking about 2018 or 2019.
Oklahoma State spent the entire season in the AP top 25 and was in the top 15 for all but two polls. Let’s take a look at what the AP voters thought now that the postseason has taken care of itself.
Final AP Top 25

1 | Alabama | 57 | 1521 | 4 |
2 | Georgia | – | 1454 | 3 |
3 | Oklahoma | – | 1374 | 2 |
4 | Clemson | – | 1292 | 1 |
5 | Ohio State | – | 1286 | 5 |
6 | Central Florida | – | 1248 | 10 |
7 | Wisconsin | – | 1194 | 6 |
8 | Penn State | – | 1120 | 9 |
9 | TCU | – | 974 | 13 |

23 | NC State | – | 232 |  – |
24 | Virginia Tech | – | 126 | 22 |
25 | Memphis | – | 119 | 19 |
The Cowboys end at No. 14, about 10 or so spots below the range a lot of us had hoped. They got a bump from 17 to 14 after beating Virginia Tech in the CW Bowl. The Hokies dropped from 22 to 24.
Conference Footprint
The Big 12 finished with three teams in the final poll with Oklahoma finishing at No. 3 and TCU at No. 9.
Let’s take a look at the final rankings by conference.
Conference | SEC | Big Ten | ACC | Big 12 | Pac-12 | The American | Mountain West |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Top 25 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 1 |
Top 15 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
Top 10 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Notre Dame is an independent with ties to the ACC but is not a member of the conference.
So, the Big 12 was top-heavy in terms of poll rankings but had the same number of ranked teams as The American. Not great! Even if the AAC boasts its first national champion this year.
Here’s a look at how Oklahoma State fared in both polls throughout the season. A final coaches poll has not been released.
